Tasting Notes

Power, structure and color are undoubtedly the signatures of the 2019 vintage. Deep purple color with violet hints. Very expressive on the nose: the attack is round, dominated by Syrah (Floral notes of violet and spices) but thanks to tannins of excellent maturity, Grenache shows a dense, robust but supple structure. Very good length on the palate, full ripeness and a fine tannic extraction gives this balanced wine a significant ageing potential, a sure bet for the coming years.

About the Winery

Here is one of the 3 largest properties of the CHATEAUneuf-du-Pape appellation with its 92 hectares of vines. Very old vineyard, the first archives of CHATEAU la Nerthe date back to the 16th century when the estate was named the Ferme du Beauvenir. His name today echoes one of the members of the family who bought it in the 16th century and who was none other than a prior living on the Nerthe Massif.

Surrounded by large pine trees, the Chateau towers over 90 hectares of contiguous vineyards. Eleven different grape varieties grow on red, loamy soil with sandy components and pebbles: Grenache, Cinsault, Mourvedre, Syrah, Muscardin, Vaccarcse, Counoise, Picpoul, Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Roussanne and Bourboulenc. The south-facing vines, adapted to the climate and soil over centuries, have roots over several meters deep. The yields of the vines, which are on average 40 years old, are very low at 25 to 30 hl./ha. All grapes are picked manually when they are optimally ripe and the grape varieties are largely vinified separately. The aging takes place depending on the tannin content and structure in new barriques, large barrels (“foudre”) or steel tanks (mainly for the white wines). Only then does the assemblage take place, which can vary depending on the year.
