Tasting Notes
Intense purple with clear edges, followed by notes of violet and sweet liquorice, interwoven with ripe black fruit, spice and a hint of blueberry on the nose. The palate is full with layers of blackcurrant and blackberry fruit, velvety soft with floral notes, locked in with notes of leather, finishing with warm spice and lasting liquorice. An excellent full bodied red that definitely needs to breathe, 1-2 hours and will get even better with age.
About the Winery
The fruit for the Paul Mas La Forge Estate Viognier were sourced from 15-20 year old vines, located east of Carcassonne in the Languedoc Wine Region, Southern France. The fruit was then quickly transported to Domaine Paul Mas in Pezenas, where the parcels of fruit were destemmed, macerated and fermented over a 4 week period, prior to 3 month malolactic fermentation in oak barrels and stainless steel. The fruit was then blended and bottled.
