About The Winery
V.E.P. stands for Vieillissement Exceptionnellement Prolonge, or in English “aged for an exceptionally long time”. Chartreuse V.E.P. is respectively identical to both Chartreuse Jaune and Chartreuse Verte in its composition and production, but it's then aged for not only 2 to 3, but for at least 10 years in the oak casks of the Carthusian liquor cellar in Voiron. The liquor develops a significant finesse and lightness during this aging process. The reason for the production of this edition was the coronation of Queen Elizabeth the 2nd in England in 1953. At this time, the monks chose to reflect their positive experience in aging their liquor for an especially long time by initiating a series of products of aged liquors. The very first Chartreuse V.E.P. Was sold in 1963, and continues to be sold in numbered replications of the bottles that were used for Chartreuse in 1840, including a special wooden box in which they are shipped. Chartreuse V.E.P.s are wonderful digestifs at 54% ABV (green) or 42% ABV (yellow), and are best enjoyed chilled.
