La Stoppa Ageno is one of the benchmark Italian orange wines which area distinctive skin contact white wines. The grapes are macerated on the skins with native yeasts for thirty days and the wine is matured half in stainless steel and half in French barriques. It is orange/bronze colour with an amazing nose of tea, peaches, pears, sweet apricots and spice. On the palate there is lovely rich ripe peach fruit and also a tannic structure but it is also juicy with honey and floral notes. This extremely complex wine has a dry finish.
About the Winery
La Stoppa is an historic estate in the province of Piacenza in the Emilia region of Italy. There are 32 hectares of vines, along with almost as much forest, plus the ruins of a medieval tower. The property was founded and planted first in the late 19th century by a lawyer named Giancarlo Ageno, whose main interest was Bordeaux varieties.
